No Name. Just a Number.
Penny didn't always have a name. She came from an Amish puppy mill โ one of thousands of dogs treated as inventory, not family. The rescue organization that found her gave her a temporary name just to have something to call her. She didn't know it yet, but her real life was about to start.
When she joined our family, we named her Penelope. Penny for short. And from day one, she made it very clear that she had opinions about everything โ especially about being included.
A Little Nervous. Always Smiling.
Penny is a copper-red golden retriever โ deeper and richer than your typical golden, which is fitting because she's not your typical dog. She came to us with some anxiety, and we knew that going in. Puppy mills don't exactly prepare dogs for a life of love and celebration.
But here's the thing about Penny: she smiles through all of it. Big, goofy, genuine smile. The kind that makes you forget whatever you were worried about. She's nervous and brave at the same time, which is honestly a pretty good way to go through life.
And when it comes to attention? Penny has a policy. If you are petting another dog โ any dog, anywhere in the house โ Penny will appear. She will insert herself between you and that other dog. She will look up at you with that smile. And she will wait, patiently but firmly, until the pets are redirected appropriately.
She Already Believed.
ChristmasPalooza exists because some of us genuinely believe Christmas shouldn't be a one-month-a-year thing. The countdown never stops. The cookies are always worth making. The movies hold up in July. The spirit is real whether it's December or June.
Penny understood this before we built the site. Every morning is Christmas morning to Penny. Every time someone comes home, it's the greatest event in recorded history. Every belly rub is a gift. Every walk is an adventure. Every single day is worth celebrating.
We didn't choose Penny as the mascot of ChristmasPalooza. She chose us โ the same way she chooses to be part of everything, every day, whether she was invited or not.
